Modification and configuring instructions

installing templates basics:

Templates come with fairly easy to follow instructions, but to the novice some parts may be confusing. 1st you want to back up your site and database

create a folder on your computer called mysite in there create a backup folder an edit folder

login to your ftp account in the pc view switch to backup folder in the server virew seledct everything then download

next upload your files typicaly the package is in a zip or rare file unpack it to your mysite directory, then in your ftp enter that folder, there will be subfolders like include enter the include folder on both the pc and server select all on pc and upload

next you may see something about adding values to your database that look something like this (dont use these values use the ones that come with the install instructions)

in admin click tools, install sql patches paste the code into the box and click send

after that select your template click tools template selection select your template click update then tools sidebox configurartion set how you want the sidebars set

then you can customize every other thing like whats displayed in product views etc

it is recomended that you get the look of your page the way you want it before trying to add items and build your inventory

there are hundreds of addons and modifications availible

This is a rough site that i modified in about 20 minutes

only added 1 template and adjusted the look of the template no other addons

warning: some templates require installing other addons first the templates are built on template systems so read the instructions carefully before installing.

applying a template maybe as easy as uploading and replacing files

sometimes it maybe nesacary to edit files, you can open the php files in notepad and do a find and replace, but its easier to use software like dreamweaver that lists line numbers as some instructions mention changeing the code on line number__ there are other free website editors but most change some code and may render the site useless dreamweaver is the best site editor there is, but it can be edited in notepad as well

 

additional notes:

some templates and addons are easier to install then others. there are large support forums to help ypu choose the right addons and get help with instalation issues.
